Django Reinhardt Festival, France
The Django Reinhardt Festival takes place each year south of Paris on the last full weekend in June.

The town of Samois-sur-Seine, about 50 miles south of Paris, is the burial place of the Belgian Gypsy guitarist and composer famous for his contribution to jazz music.

- Django Reinhardt
Django Reinhardt was born as John Baptiste Reinhardt in 1910 in Belgium of Manouche, Gypsy parents. He became a working musician when he was a teen and mastered the banjo, violin, and guitar. His brother also played guitar and they often worked together in Paris.
Django Reinhardt is best known for his collaboration with violinist Stephan Grappelli and the work of their quintet the Hot Club Of France where they introduced Gypsy Swing.
Most remarkable is the fact that Django Reinhardt lost the use of two fingers on his left hand in a fire when he was eighteen. He overcame this handicap and taught himself to play again. With that return to the guitar, his unique style of swing evolved.

Trains leave Gare de Lyon every half-hour from the blue platform bound for Laroche-Migennes or Montargis. Leave the train at Fontainebleau/Avon station.

Purchase tickets at the Ile-de-France ticket counter on the blue platform.
- Shuttle
On arrival in the Fontainebleau/Avon station, several free shuttles are on hand to take you directly from the station to the island festival site.
